What is Iowa Rental Help?
Iowa Rental Help can assist qualified Iowa renters (and some homeowners) who are facing financial difficulties and the threat of homelessness. The program offers financial assistance to help Iowans stay in their rental homes, or to find affordable housing that best suit their needs. Iowa Rental Help may offer*:
- Case Management
- Costs of Inspections for Habitability Standards
- Hotel/Motel Vouchers to be used if adequate housing is not immediately available
- Housing Search and Placement Assistance
- Legal Assistance (Only for renters who may be evicted)
- Moving Cost Assistance
- Short-term rent subsidy (in some cases this may include back-payment.)
- Security Deposit Assistance
- Storage Costs Assistance
- Utility subsidy for up to eighteen months (in some cases this may include back-payment.)
Iowa Rental Help is the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing program created as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Iowa Finance Authority – a self-funded state agency – administers the program in Iowa.
